BOULDER, COLORADO (AP) — Introduce jeng, an alcohol-free, hemp-infused, ready-to-drink cocktail that will tantalize the senses, elicit discussion, and enhance social interactions.
Jeng was created by longtime friends Christopher Lackner and John Enghauser, who reunited with an idea just before the epidemic struck. Jeng was launched in New York in early 2021, based on a recipe from John’s favorite “home drink.” The business is growing into Chicago right now, with ambitions to become nationwide in 2022.
“Both John and I like drinks with strong flavors and specialty beers. Rather than making another boring CBD seltzer, we set out to develop a drink that we would like, one that was similar to a cocktail but didn’t include alcohol,” said Lackner. “A cocktail is more than just an alcoholic beverage; it’s an experience to be shared.” You get that cocktail taste, sensation, and connection with jeng. The hangover is something you don’t get.”
Jeng recreates classics like the Moscow mule, paloma, and gin & tonic, bringing a refreshing, alcohol-free alternative to cocktail culture. The drink’s eleven milligrams of CBD make it pleasant and accessible for both sober and CBD-curious people.
“We purposefully designed jeng to contain a “sessionable” quantity of CBD to make it appealing rather than frightening,” Enghauser added. “It’s the ideal dosage for someone who has never heard of CBD but is anxious to give it a try.”
The world of adult beverages is evolving. The popularity of ready-to-drink (RTD) drinks is on the increase. Non-alcoholic drinks are growing more popular, and hemp beverages are gaining popularity as a substitute. Jeng’s drink collection captures all three trends.
“Bar managers are ecstatic to have a high-quality RTD on the menu because it means they can fill orders faster,” Lackner added. “Those few seconds add up at a time when pubs and restaurants are severely understaffed.
“Another problem we’re hearing about, especially in cannabis-legal areas, is that consumers are just drinking water at dinner or at a venue since they’ve already taken weed.” They don’t want to combine alcohol and marijuana, which is reasonable, but it irritates the operator. “Jeng is the one who fixes the issue.”
Alcohol-free drinks are the way of the future. Cocktail culture will almost likely continue to move toward alcohol-free, thanks to the fast increase in cannabis legalization and the increasing trend for functional and “better for you” drinks.
“The beverage industry’s nature is rapid change,” stated Lackner. “Bottled water was unthinkable thirty years ago. Alcohol seltzers were almost unknown of ten years ago. CBD was not on anyone’s radar five years ago. Today, we’re witnessing a rising sober-curious movement normalize an alcohol-free lifestyle, as well as a society that increasingly views hemp and cannabis as healthy alternatives. There is an opportunity.”
